When I was coming up with topics for Marketmommies.com Favorite Things - Organic Baby seemed like an easy one. However when I finally sat down shop, I was amazed at how big of a catagory this had become.
I first became a mom back in 2004 - and I don't recall there a being a big push for organic items for babies. The big question regarding diapers was Pampers vs. Huggies not Cloth vs. Disposable. I first recall seeing organic baby food right after the birth of my second son in 2007. By the time Katherine came along in 2009, organic products for baby were everywhere.
When I searched Organic Baby on the Marketmommies.com homepage, dozens of businesses popped up. Everything from organic clothing and gear to lotions, food and of course cloth diapers. I had no idea organic had become so big among moms and mom businesses.
I guess it goes without saying that moms always lead the way on consumer trends. It makes sense that the rest of the world is just catching up with what moms have been doing and using.
So instead of pulling out specific products for Marketmommies.com Favorite Things, I thought I would tell you about some Mom Businsses leading the way in the catagory of Organic Baby.

Jennifer started her business after her youngest son was born with severe ezcema. Not wanting to subject him to the topical steriods doctors prescribed her newborn, she started experimenting on her own. She came up with an organic blend of ingredients that completely made her son's eczema go away. Ellia C. Naturals was born. With products like the Milky Way Soothing Bath for Baby, she is making a whole line of organic skin products for babies and their mommas.
Shaklee

One of the things that concerns me the most is the products I use to clean my home. Since starting Marketmommies.com have found so many people who swear by Shaklee. Shaklee uses natural ingredients in their products. They have wonderful cleaners for your home and laundry. Both are especially important when you have a baby in the house.
A local mom sells these products and donates her sales to a non-profit she started in her son's memory. The Michael Hazelroth Rainy Day Fund gives money to schools to create rain gardens and teach children about the importance of taking care of our planet.
Squeaky Clean Tot

This is a great resource for parents who are concerned about the products they are using on their children. The parents who started Squeaky Clean Tot found that they were spending countless hours researching products they were comfortable using on their baby girl. They realized other parents might be doing the same thing and all parents might benefit from a clearinghouse of information about organic products for babies and children.
You can review products you've tried, and check out their database for parent reviews. I especially like the Nasty Stuff page, where they tell you what products and ingredients you should avoid. Great information for any parent wanting to protect their children from all the bad ingredients out there.
